UH Telemedicine Project

Curriculum Development

To develop a didactic, web-based curriculum to train health care providers in the use of Telemedicine technologies and applications. Funding is through the Department of Defense (DAMD17-99-2-9003), U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC) at Fort Detrick, Maryland.

Clinical Service

To establish a clinical telemedicine service network between an urban hub of physician specialists and remote or rural primary care clinics across the Hawaiian Island chain. Funding is through the Department of Defense (DAMD17-99-2-9003), U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center at Fort Detrick, Maryland.

JABSOM

To provide technology service and expertise to the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), by developing and deploying hardware and software systems for distance education of medical students. Current projects are (1) testing for deployment of high- and low-bandwidth solutions to allow students to actively participate real time in small group tutorials from remote training sites; (2) providing medical education and CME conferences for Faculty, Residents, Community Physicians and Students over telecommunications networks.
